Dzisiejszy post będzie niecodzienny, a to dlatego, że bardziej będzie dotyczyć gwary śląskiej niż języka angielskiego. A wszystko za sprawą Łamigłówki Śląskiej– gry, która w atrakcyjny sposób rozpowszechnia mowę Ślązaków i uczy graczy najciekawszych oraz najbardziej popularnych słówek tej gwary. Na początek zasady gry…..
RULES:
The objective of the game is to put together the black or wooden blocks so that they form a particular shape. Each shape represents a word from the Silesian dialect. The player who is faster than the opponent wins the game.

KATOWICE
A heart-shaped logo of Katowice created to promote the city during its campaign for the European Capital of Culture 2016. This campaign is seen as a trigger for the changes made in the city as well as for the increased promotion of culture and art.
SPODEK
A sports and concert arena situated in the inner centre of Katowice. “Spodek” can hold over 10,000 people and it is one of the most characteristic buildings in the Silesian region. Its shape resembles a flying saucer.
KRYMPOCZ
A Silesian name for a pickaxe, a tool used to grind down bigger parts of rock or hard ground. Pickaxes are used in coal mining and quarrying.
FABER
In Silesia this word stands for a cornflower. The city of Katowice is described as the “City of Gardens”.
GRUBA
For Silesian people “gruba” is a coal mine. It is the place where miners go on their work shift (“szychta”) and where the coal (“wongiel”) is extracted.
FRELA
This word simply means “a girl”. In Silesian dialect “szwarna frela” stands for a beautiful girl, while “fest szwarna frela” is a girl of an exceptional beauty.
GRUBIORZ
„Grubiorz” means a miner, a man digging in a coal mine (“gruba”). On St. Barbara’s Day, which is the day of the patron saint of miners, when a miner has a day off (“fajrant”) he celebrates and puts on his formal uniform and his shako (“czako”- a tall, cylindrical cap with feathers).
HAŁDA
A mine slag heap, in Silesian also called “berga”. It is a heap or a dump of mine waste produced during coal extraction. Nowadays a lot of slag heaps are covered with greenery and used for leisure activities.
WONGEL
In Silesian dialect this word stands for coal. The region of Upper Silesia, where coal is extracted in the largest quantity in Poland, is mostly associated with this natural resource. A very popular simile says that something can be “as black as coal” (“czorny jak wongel”).
FAMILOK
A multi-family house built for the miners and their families. Mostly it is a brick building with arched windows that have cavities painted in red or green.
